The Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway Line, linking the co-host cities of the 2022 Olympics in Beijing and Hebei province, began construction in May 2016.

Starting from the Beijing North Station, the line runs through the Haidian, Changping, and Yanqing districts of Beijing. The line continues through Huailai and Xunhua in Hebei province before terminating in the city of Zhangjiakou, making for a total length of 174 kilometers.

The line is designed for trains traveling up to 350 kilometers per hour, which is expected to shorten the single journey time from over 3 hours to approximately 1 hour.

It is estimated that total investment in the high-speed line is around 31.2 billion yuan ($4.55 billion), and that the line will be put into service at the end of 2019.

As the high-speed line is being especially built for the 2022 Winter Olympics, the trains will be equipped with free Wi-Fi services to enable tourists to check the latest Olympic Games information.
