Lunhua performance staged to mark Dragon Boat Festival

A Lunhua performance was staged in Dadianzi village, Luanping county on May 29 to mark the traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival.

Luanping county in Hebei’s Chengde city is home to the unique performance art ––Lunhua. Usually, a group of people strike iron and then rotate continuously to create a magnificent display of sparks, which in ancient times waspart of a prayer for a rich harvest and a better tomorrow.

The performance is usually conducted at night to provide better visual effects.

Lunhua used to be an important type of folk performance, and it has a long history dating back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

In November 2014, Lunhua was recognized in the fourth group of items of national-level intangible cultural heritage by the State Council.
