“Chinese-style wresting is a traditional skill and I hope it will be carried forward generation by generation,” said Sun Guobin, a team member of a Chinese-style wrestling team in Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei province.

The team was established to promote Chinese-style wrestling and it mainly gives authentic performances rather than participating in competitions.

“The team consists of retired Chinese-style wrestlers, coaches and those who love wrestling,” said Wu Huanting, dean of the martial arts department of Shijiazhuang Community College. Wu said that the average age of team members is about 50.

“Chinese-style wrestling is an old sports event which has a history of thousands of years,” Wu said. “As time passes by, fewer people are interested in Chinese-style wrestling. I hope this team will raise people’s enthusiasm for it.”

Shuai Lihui, deputy team leader of the Chinese-style wrestling team in Shijiazhuang, said wrestling is good for people’s development.

“People become more persistent and tenacious when they take up wrestling. I would like to promote the inheritance of traditional Chinese culture through wrestling.”
