Shijiazhuang, capital of north China’s Hebei province, will hold its first tourism industry development conference in the ancient city of Zhengding from Sept 2 to Sept 4.
The conference will see a series of themed activities, which will showcase the tourism attractions of Shijiazhuang.
The activities will include an opening ceremony, a live-action performance, a tourism summit, and several meetings.
The conference, which has a theme of “building a sample for Chinese cultural tourism”, will develop new ways to exhibit the historical sites, as well as the modern attractions of Zhengding county.
Representatives from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions will attend the conference, together with those from more than 10 countries, including Malaysia, Russia, Thailand, and Singapore.
“The tourism development conference is of vital importance to promote the development of Zhengding county,” said Xing Guohui, secretary-general of Shijiazhuang.
Thanks to its advantageous geographical location and abundant tourism resources, the tourism industry of Shijiazhuang will have unprecedented opportunities for development with the background of the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
As the host city for the conference, Zhengding has made great efforts to renovate the ancient architecture of the city.
Zhengding has invested more than 200 million yuan ($15 million) in the maintenance of the ancient wall in the city, with a special effort made to maintain the original look.
From February this year, Zhengding has launched 24 ancient city protection programs, trying to improve the living environment without destroying historic sites.
“Our living conditions here have become better in recent years, and many migrant workers have returned home now. I think the most beautiful place is our hometown,” said an elderly man surnamed Liu.
“Zhengding will take this opportunity to showcase its charms and prosperous tourism industry,” said Feng Suwei, vice-secretary-general of Zhengding county.
